Where do I get my business blog writing ideas from?
If you've read anything I've written before, you'll know that writing and journaling is a hobby of mine, and something that I aim to do each day. A great thing about owning a small online business is that I get to write blogs. I love blogs for a whole variety of reasons, they are great for marketing and connecting with an audience, but also I get the opportunity to write short pieces about my products, my inspirations, and what I love about running this stationery business.
If you are also a small business owner or personal blogger, you might be looking for writing ideas and inspiration, or you might be finding it challenging thinking of new ideas to write about. Here are a few ideas that might help you to get started or come up with a new idea for your own business or personal blog.
- ChatGPT: I would never recommend getting ChatGPT or other AI programs to write a full blog for you, it is really great for giving ideas. I got this idea today from ChatGPT. If you haven't used it before, you can log in and ask chat GPT to write anything you like. I typed in "give me blog writing ideas for my Write and Craft business". ChatGPT came up with around 10 different ideas, and even more when I asked for them. It also asked if I wanted a blog topic calendar. When you find one that you like the sound of, you can also ask Chat GPT to give more detail, write an outline, or write the full blog post. I don't recommend using a full blog post from Chat GPT - it's repetitive, formulaic and lacks personality, but it can give you a good place to start and plenty of ideas.
- Your products or services - this one is a little obvious, but choose your bestselling product or service, and write a blog post about it. I did this recently with a blog post about recipe journals. You can write a good summary about what your product or service is, who it is for, and what is great about it. You could do the same thing for new products and services, or any that you are running a promotion on.
- Google: Google is one of the main places I get blog ideas from! When you google the name of your product or service, scroll to find the section that says "People also ask". You'll find questions written out that are related to your product and service. You can write your blog posts around the answers. This is a great idea because you can write the answers to the specific things your audience wants to know about, and it's also great for getting your blog posts found on Google. When you click through to the second page on Google, you'll find more related questions that you can answer.
- Write a personal story: You can write your own personal story around your products or services. Tell your audience why you started the business or blog. Tell them how you have personally used the products and services you use. Tell them what inspires you, and all about your own journey to where you are now. This is a great one for when beginning your business or blogging journey.
- Take inspiration from others: Read the blogs of some of the businesses or people that inspire you. Read their blogs and the comments and see what is popular. You can also look at your competitors blogs and see what they write about. Of course it's never a good idea to copy other people's blogs, but you can get some ideas and inspiration from their blogs.
- Look at what is popular on social media in your niche: Trends on social media come and go quickly, and quickly jumping on a social media trend is a great way to bring traffic to your site and a great way to engage your audience.
- News stories: If there is anything in the news related to your niche, audience, product or services, write a blog about it. You could write about how the news story relates to your product or services, or how your products and services can help.
- Answer your customers' questions: If there are questions that customers often ask you, or questions you receive in emails or DMs, write a post answering one or more of them. This is useful because potential customers can view them, and you can also direct your customers to the blog post for a detailed explanation without needing to write a long response each time.
- Keep a long list of blog ideas somewhere handy: Have a notebook handy and write your ideas, or have a document on your computer or phone to write your ideas down as they come to you. I recommend having one of our notebooks with you at your desk all the time for ideas. Sometimes ideas come to you at odd times, so write them down as you think of them and then refer back to the list when it's time to write. I always have a big, long list of blog ideas on my computer, which I keep adding to. I may not ever get the time to write them all, but when it's time to write something and post something, there will always be an idea waiting there for me.
- Just start writing about your business or yourself: The final tip is to just start writing. Start writing about what you do. Write about yourself, write about your product or service, and just get started. Sometimes when I am not feeling inspired, I just start writing and then the inspiration comes. If you have something on paper (or computer) you are ahead of where you were before, and you will have something to post to your customers. It doesn't have to be perfect.
If you have a personal or professional blog, I hope you were able to find some inspiration in these ideas for blogging. I enjoyed writing this blog and plan to continue putting up weekly blogs for writers and journalers.
